Aelius is an ancient Roman family name which was possibly derived from the Greek word ‘ηλιος (helios) meaning sun. This was the family name of the Roman emperor Hadrian, who expend most of his time out of Rome traveling. He was called Hadrian the Traveller.
AELIUS Engineers and Consultants was established in 2016 by its CEO, Mr. Xavier Lara, upon his return to Spain after nearly a decade of traveling and working as an expat across four continents, predominantly managing solar thermal power plant projects. In 2022, the company evolved into AELIUS Energies SLU (AELIUS), with the Colorado-based Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Pikes Peak Renewable Investments Inc. (PPRI), backed by the US Bank and other investors, joining as a major shareholder.
Following PPRI’s investment, AELIUS now offers Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions, utilizing Shanghai Electric Gotion (SEG) technology. The company operates not only as a vendor or EPC but also develops, co-owns, and owns battery storage parks, expanding its reach in the renewable energy sector.
PPRI and AELIUS are also co-owners of the 50 MW CSP project, Santa Cruz Termosolar (SCT), further solidifying their partnership in advancing sustainable energy solutions.
